A Suite Retreat

New Construction

Home Sweet Home….Away From It All

The original structure is an early 1900’s two and a half story home with four bedrooms on the second floor.  The homeowners needed a bedroom, bath and sitting room on the ground floor level.  The solution:  a single story addition with a vaulted ceiling, ensuite bath, and a wall of windows to a beautiful wooded view.   The open floor plan required the installation of steel beams that were then covered with planks of oak to simulate the appearance of solid wood beams.  A split half-round window mimics one on the third floor of the original structure.   In keeping with the architecture of the original structure, we used six-inch beveled cedar siding and matching roof pitch on the addition.

The suite features an L-shaped bedroom and sitting room space with a fireplace and French doors to the deck.   In the adjoining bath, a sink was installed in an old chest of drawers to create a vanity.   The bathroom also includes a large walk-in closet and a spacious shower with a tiled floor and angled outer wall.

The cathedral ceiling made way for the impressive two-story windows that allow an abundance of natural light.  A shelf was installed above the bead board siding around the room, creating a display ledge for photos and other collectibles.  The homeowners wanted this area to serve as a cozy private retreat located on the main floor of their home.  The result was a relaxing suite with a view!
